What to expect on the night

We follow a tried and tested structure developed by Toastmasters that is designed to build your skills and confidence step by step. Everything is explained as we go along, so you’ll never feel lost.

Prepared Speeches & Evaluations

We typically kick off with three members delivering speeches they have prepared in advance. These focus on specific goals, such as speech structure, vocal variety, or using body language effectively.

Immediately after each speech, a fellow member provides a helpful evaluation. Our feedback is always supportive; we focus on the positive strengths of the speech and offer just one or two friendly recommendations to consider to make the speech even better. It’s all about helping you grow in a safe, encouraging environment.

A Chance to Chat

After the first half, we take a short break for refreshments. This is the perfect time to grab a drink, stretch your legs, and have a friendly catch-up with other members and guests.

Table Topics (The "Impromptu" Session)

This is our fun, fast paced session where we practice thinking on our feet! A "Topics Master" gives a random subject, and speakers have a minute or two to give an off the cuff response.

For our guests: You are more than welcome to have a go if you feel up to it, but there is absolutely no pressure. Many guests enjoy just sitting back and watching the creative (and often very funny!) responses.

Table Topics Evaluations

Just like our prepared speeches, our impromptu speakers receive supportive feedback. We look at how they handled the challenge and offer quick tips on how to structure a response when you’re put on the spot.
